Introduced in 2017, the new FX Airguns Crown is starting to hit the market this Fall/Winter season and once again, FX innovation has taken the market by storm with the all new Smooth Twist X barrel system.
Already known for it’s accuracy, the FX smooth twist barrel is in fact a smooth barrel with rifling to spin the pellet only at the very last couple inches of the barrel. The new Smooth Twist X uses the latest innovative manufacturing processes to incorporate the rifling the full length of the barrel. In addition, the thin barrel sleeves can be easily changed to switch calibers or if the shooter wants a different twist ratio.
Accuracy is excellent with the rifle already winning some major competitions.
The FX Airguns Crown is currently available in three laminated stock options (Blue, Grey and Green) as well as in Walnut. A smooth side lever actions cocks the rifle and loads the next pellet while right below is a convenient manual safety throw switch for when you’re ready to pull the trigger. Trigger function is light and crisp out of the box as can be expected from FX, but it is adjustable as well.
The rifle is regulated and pressure can be adjusted from the under side, but be sure to carefully read the instructions before doing so as you can damage it if done incorrectly.
Also on the bottom side is a capped male quick connect for easy filling of the 250 BAR 480 cc bottle as well as two pressure gauges, one which reads fill pressure, the other reading regulated pressure. The rifle we tested came with a factory setting of about 125 BAR which was perfect for launching a 25.39 JSB pellet around 890-900 FPS. Accuracy was one large hole at 50 yards.
On the left side are a two power adjustments dials. The forward dial has 3 settings for making large adjustments when changing calibers, the rear dial for fine tuning. Again, be sure to carefully read the instructions before making any adjustments as the rifle must NOT be cocked when changing settings.
Up top the FX Crown is an 11mm rail for mounting a rifle scope. The Crown is going to come with a large magazine so you’ll need to use some tall scope rings to clear it. We found the BKL Tech, 30mm Tube, Double Strap Dovetail Rings, Standard Height worked very well clearing the magazine by just under a 1/16″ of an inch and giving the 56mm objective lens on our Optisan EVX 6-24×56 about 1/4″ over the barrel.
Stock fit and finish is exquisite, while the thumb hole is very comfortable with good placement making for an easy trigger reach even for smaller hands. At the rear is a soft adjustable rubber butt pad.
The rifle is very well balanced, which is helped along with the light weight carbon fiber bottle, giving the FX Crown a lighter feel than it’s stated weight of just over 7 pounds and 43″ length.
Having a fully shrouded barrel, the FX Crown is already a back yard friendly quiet rifle, but for additional moderation the shroud can be pulled forward. A great option as it keeps the rifle more compact for storage and carrying, while a quick slide forward of the shroud gives one the extra stealth when needed.
The FX Crown also has an ambidextrous cheek piece making for easy scope to eye alignment.
As with previous FX Airguns new releases, we expect the Crown to be elusive to get as demand is going to be high on this model. For more information, pricing, specification and to order or pre-order, visit our FX Airguns page.
